What should stay off the invitation is the gift list. Gift details belong on your wedding website, where guests can find them if they want to, rather than on the card that invites them.
Where to put the website on a printed invitation
| Where | Best for |
|---|---|
| A separate details card | Formal invitations, where the main card stays traditional. |
| The bottom of the invitation | Modern and relaxed invitations with a little space to spare. |
| A QR code | Guests who would rather scan than type a long link. |
| The save the date | Destination weddings, so guests can plan travel early. |
Keep the link short and easy to type, and test the QR code from a printed proof, not just on screen.

Should the gift list go on the invitation?
No. Putting a gift list or registry on the invitation can read as an expectation, which is why both British and American etiquette still advise against it. Mention it on your website instead, ideally in a gifts section or a short FAQ answer, and let guests find it there.

What goes on the invitation and what goes on the website
| On the invitation | On the website |
|---|---|
| Hosts and your names | Your story and photos |
| Date, time and venue | Full schedule, maps and parking |
| Dress code, if formal | Dress code tips and what to pack |
| RSVP date and where to reply | The RSVP form and FAQ |
| The website link or QR code | Travel, accommodation and gifts |

With a digital invitation
A website-style digital invitation opens as the invitation and continues into the website, so there is no separate link to add. Guests tap once and find the envelope, the details and the RSVP in one place. If you also print cards for some relatives, add a QR code that opens the same invitation.
Questions about websites on invitations
- Is it tacky to put a wedding website on an invitation?
- No. It is now expected, because the website holds the schedule, travel details and RSVP. Very formal invitations put it on a separate details card to keep the main card traditional.
- Where does the wedding website go on an invitation?
- At the bottom of the invitation, on a separate details card, or as a QR code. On a save the date, it can go under the date and place.
- Should you put a QR code on a wedding invitation?
- It helps guests who would rather scan than type. Print it large enough, add the link underneath as a back-up, and test it from a printed proof.
- Can you put the registry on the wedding invitation?
- It is better not to. Put gift details on your wedding website and let guests find them there.
