With digital wedding invitations, the link opens your full invitation, schedule, map and RSVP in one place, so the message itself can stay short and personal. This guide covers the message; for the invitation wording, see our main guide to wedding invitation wording.

What to include in a digital invitation message

  • A personal greeting with the guest’s name. It makes the link feel like an invitation, not a notification.
  • What it is: “our wedding invitation”.
  • The date and place, so the essentials survive even if the link is not opened straight away.
  • The link itself, on its own line.
  • The RSVP deadline.
  • Your names to sign off.

Send personally where you can. A message from your own number or email is far less likely to be ignored than one from an unknown sender. For channels and timing, see how to send digital wedding invitations.

WhatsApp and text message wording

WhatsApp · warm
Hi Sarah and Tom! 💌 We’re getting married and we’d love you to be there. Saturday 12 June 2027 · Lake Como Here’s your invitation, with all the details and RSVP: [your invitation link] Please reply by 1 May. Love, Amelia & James
Text · short
Hi Grandma, here is our wedding invitation for 12 June. Tap the link to see everything and reply: [your invitation link] Lots of love, Amelia & James
WhatsApp · formal
Dear Mr and Mrs Carter, it would be our honour to have you at our wedding on Saturday 12 June 2027 at Villa Balbiano, Lake Como. Your invitation and RSVP are here: [your invitation link] With warm regards, Amelia Carter & James Hart

Tip: send the message to each guest or household, not to a big group. People reply to messages addressed to them.

Group chat wording

If a family or friendship group already shares a chat, a single post can work, as long as everyone in it is invited.

Family group
Hello everyone! 🥂 Our wedding invitations are here. Saturday 12 June 2027 · Lake Como Tap the link for the schedule, travel tips and RSVP: [your invitation link] Please each reply by 1 May. We can’t wait!

If some households have their own personal link with a set number of seats, send those individually rather than posting one shared link.

Email wording

Subject lines

  • You’re invited: Amelia & James · 12 June 2027
  • Our wedding invitation 💌
  • Save your seat: our wedding at Lake Como
  • Amelia and James are getting married

Two phones: a WhatsApp message with an invitation link preview for Luisa and Thiago, and an email titled “You’re invited: Luisa & Thiago · 12 June 2027”
The same invitation sent two ways: a short WhatsApp note and a slightly fuller email.

Messages for guests who are less confident online

Some guests worry about clicking links. Reassure them and offer another way to reply.

Reassuring
Hi Auntie Rose, this is our wedding invitation. Just tap the link and it opens like a web page, there’s nothing to download. [your invitation link] If it’s easier, ring us and we’ll RSVP for you. x

You can also print a card with a QR code for anyone who prefers paper. Our wedding invitation etiquette guide covers mixing digital and printed invitations.

Save the date messages

RSVP reminder messages

A friendly reminder a week or two before your deadline is normal. Keep it light. For more reply wording, see our wedding RSVP wording examples.

Reminder · friendly
Hi Sarah! Just a gentle nudge: we’d love to know if you can make it to our wedding on 12 June. You can reply here in a minute: [your invitation link] RSVPs close on 1 May. x

Two phones with chat messages: a reassuring note to Auntie Rose offering to RSVP for her, and a gentle RSVP reminder to Sarah
A reassuring note for less confident guests, and a friendly reminder before the RSVP deadline.

Update and change messages

Change of details
Hello! A quick update for our wedding on 12 June: the ceremony now starts at 4pm, not 3pm. The invitation has been updated with the new schedule: [your invitation link]

Because a digital invitation can be edited after sending, guests always see the current details when they open the same link again.

Digital invitation wording questions

What do you write when sending a wedding invitation by WhatsApp?
Greet the guest by name, say it is your wedding invitation, give the date and place, paste the link on its own line, and mention the RSVP deadline. Sign with both your names.
Is it OK to send wedding invitations by text?
Yes. Many couples now send their invitation link by text or WhatsApp. A personal message with the link makes it feel just as considered as a card.
What should the subject line of a wedding invitation email be?
Keep it clear and personal, for example “You’re invited: Amelia & James · 12 June 2027”. Avoid words that look like marketing, which can send the email to spam.
Should I send one message per guest or one group message?
One message per guest or household is more personal and gets more replies. A group message can work for a close family chat if everyone in it is invited.
