Relaxed wording suits relaxed designs: think painted gardens, soft florals and plenty of colour. Our floral wedding invitation templates fit garden parties and summer celebrations, and each is a digital wedding invitation you can send by WhatsApp in seconds.
When casual wording is the right choice
- Garden parties, barbecues and back-garden weddings.
- Pub, restaurant or village hall receptions.
- Small weddings with mostly close friends and family.
- Second weddings, vow renewals and elopement parties.
- Any celebration where the dress code is “come as you are”.
If you want something clean and stylish rather than chatty, modern wedding invitation wording may suit you better.

- Kids: “Little ones very welcome!” or see our adults-only wording.
What casual invitations still need
Casual wording can hide key details. Before you send, check that a guest who knows nothing could answer these from your invitation and website:
- Who is invited (named guests, plus-ones, children).
- Exact date, start time and roughly when it ends.
- The address, with a map for anyone travelling.
- Whether food is a full meal or nibbles.
- How and by when to reply.
Your wedding website is the place for everything that would clutter the invitation: parking, a camping field, the weather plan.
Casual wedding invitation wording questions
- Is it OK to have a casual wedding invitation?
- Yes. The invitation should match the celebration. A relaxed, conversational invitation tells guests what kind of day to expect, which helps them dress and plan accordingly.
- How do you word an informal wedding invitation?
- Write in the first person (“We’re getting married”), use first names, put the date in numerals and keep one friendly line about food or dancing. Always include the place, start time and a reply-by date.
- Can you put a joke on a wedding invitation?
- Yes, if it suits you and your guests. Keep it to one line and make sure it does not obscure the date, place or RSVP details.
- Should a casual invitation include a dress code?
- It helps. “Casual” means different things to different people, so a short line such as “summer smart” or “wear comfy shoes for the lawn” saves guests guessing.
