Short love quotes for wedding invitations

A quote should be short enough to read in one breath. Always credit the writer. The quotes below are from works long in the public domain, so you can use them freely.

  • “Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.” — Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights
  • “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” — Jeremiah 31:3
  • “Love is patient, love is kind.” — 1 Corinthians 13:4
  • “Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be.” — Robert Browning
  • “You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope.” — Jane Austen, Persuasion
  • “I have spread my dreams under your feet.” — W. B. Yeats
  • “Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.” — attributed to Aristotle

Many quotes shared online are misattributed. If you cannot find a reliable source for a line, credit it as “attributed to” or leave the name off. Lyrics and modern poems are usually still under copyright, so a short phrase is safer than several lines.

How to keep romantic wording from feeling too much

  • Use one quote or one romantic line, not both.
  • Keep the practical details plain and easy to scan.
  • Read it aloud. If it sounds like a greeting card, cut a line.
  • Save your longer story for the “Our story” section of your wedding website.

Romantic wedding invitation wording questions

How do you make a wedding invitation sound romantic?
Open with a single line about love, such as a short quote, a line about how you met, or a promise, then give the details plainly. A romantic design and a personal message with the link do the rest.
Can I use a song lyric on my wedding invitation?
A very short phrase is generally safer than several lines, as most lyrics are protected by copyright. Public domain poetry and scripture are free to use.
Where does a quote go on a wedding invitation?
At the top, above the host or couple line, usually in italics or a smaller size. Credit the author underneath.
What is a short romantic line for a wedding invitation?
“Two hearts, one promise”, “The beginning of forever” and “Grow old along with me” are popular short options that work with any design.
