Guests travelling abroad need a lot of information, and they need to find it again later. Our destination wedding invitation templates put the invitation, travel guide, schedule and RSVP behind one link, so nothing gets lost in an email thread.
What a destination wedding invitation needs to say
- The place, clearly: town and country, not just the venue name.
- The full dates guests should keep free, especially for a weekend celebration.
- Which events they are invited to: welcome drinks, ceremony, farewell brunch.
- Where to find travel and accommodation details.
- An RSVP deadline that is earlier than for a local wedding.
Timing matters more abroad. Send save the dates 8–12 months ahead and invitations around three to four months before. Our wedding invitation timeline explains why.

Wording for travel and accommodation
These lines sit on your wedding website or a details page, not on the invitation itself. Keep them helpful rather than prescriptive.
- Flights: “The nearest airport is Palma (PMI), about 40 minutes from the venue.”
- Accommodation: “We have reserved rooms at Hotel Es Port until 1 March. Mention our wedding when you book.”
- Getting around: “A coach will run from the hotel to the ceremony and back after midnight.”
- Documents: “Please check passport validity and whether you need a visa for Spain well before you travel.”
- Budget: “We know travelling is a big ask. Please don’t feel you need to bring a gift as well.”
Our wedding website checklist covers everything else guests from abroad will look for.

Destination RSVP wording
Ask for replies earlier than you would at home, typically two to three months before, so you can confirm numbers and rooms with venues abroad. More examples are in our wedding RSVP wording guide.
- “Please let us know by 1 May whether you can join us in Greece.”
- “We know travel takes planning. Please reply by 1 May, and tell us if you’re coming for the whole weekend.”
Destination wedding invitation wording questions
- What do you put on a destination wedding invitation?
- Your names, the place (town and country), the dates of the whole celebration, the events guests are invited to, an RSVP deadline and where to find travel and accommodation details, usually your wedding website.
- How far in advance should you send destination wedding invitations?
- Around three to four months before the wedding, with save the dates eight to twelve months ahead so guests can book flights and leave.
- Should hotel details go on the invitation?
- Generally no. Keep the invitation short and put hotels, flights and transport on your wedding website, linked from the invitation.
- How do you politely say no gifts at a destination wedding?
- On your website, try: “Your company on this trip is the greatest gift. Please don’t feel you need to bring anything else.”
